Congo-DRC

The Democratic Republic of Congo, which is the second largest African country located in the heart of Africa, is potentially one of the richest countries on earth. It is a place seemingly blessed with every type of mineral and boasts some of the richest mineral deposits in the world.
The economy of Congo-DRC has long been highly dependent on natural resource extraction, especially timber harvesting and mining, and this is unlikely to change in the near future.

With vast forests, exceedingly high biodiversity that covers almost 60% of the territory, extraordinary hydroelectric potential that can produce approximately 40,000 MW of electricity, and substantial endowments of Cobalt (28 % of the world's supply), Coltan (21%), Diamonds (20.5%), Copper (6%), Gold, Uranium, Tin, Emerald, Manganese, Coal and Oil), Congo-DRC has long been one of the leading producer of natural resources that the mainstream world has forgotten about, therefore plunging its economy into a stagnant basin seemingly with no light in the future.

But there's still hope that smarter, more accountable use of resources, combined with sustainable development initiatives and conservation efforts, can bring a brighter future to the people of Congo.
